Disability support workers support people with disability to live the life they want.
As part of a team, carry out lawful duties, directions (as per roster), aimed at supporting and assisting persons with a disability in self-advocacy and participation in their living and/or community environment, including all aspects of everyday living – personal care, washing, cleaning, laundry, preparing and cooking meals and shopping while also providing opportunities for choice and self-directed decision making. Support workers will be clear that their professional engagement with clients is concerned with generating quality personal relationships, Staff are also expected to present a positive and professional image of the Company when interacting with clients, family members, advocates, service providers, funding bodies and the general community

This role would be well suited to someone looking for less than 20 hours per week and a flexible work environment but with enthusiasm to grow and develop with a supportive company.
Activities
supporting individual participation in social and recreational activities such as going to the footy or the movies
undertaking tasks outside the home such as shopping, visiting friends and family
supporting participants to achieve their employment goals
personal care
light domestic duties such as meal preparation and cleaning
manual handling and/or the use of equipment to support mobility (wheelchairs or hoists)
providing companionship and emotional support
transportation
assisting individuals to communicate.

Assist with client’s physical and mobility requirements.
Communication and commitment to your role- Answering and responding to calls and emails from E Health Network is part of the responsibilities of your job. At times you may also be required to take the initiative and contact E Health Network & Support Coordinators yourselves or they will try to call you to discuss a participant. Please be available to have these conversations. You can always ask your line manager afterwards to debrief.
Progress note writing- Proven computer skills and ability to write concise and informative progress notes after each shift and communicate any changes or concerns observed in your client to the assigned manager or support coordinator. And work with clients, family members and other stakeholders in a collaborative and supportive manner.
Availability & reliability - we are looking for staff who can cover open shifts, are clear and consistent with their availability, and regularly update unavailability. We are happy to work around your other responsibilities, so long as you keep us informed of your availability and reliability.
Providing Excellent support- We aim to deliver excellent support to every participant. Our approach is person-centered, strength based, and safety focused.
Carry out designated duties, and other reasonable duties as instructed by the employer from time to time.
Perform direct care duties for individual clients as specified in the Personal Care Profile including (but not limited to): v Showering/bathing v Dressing/grooming v Toileting v Preparing meals v Assisting individual clients to eat their meals v Providing clients with additional support where required, such as gastrostomy feeding where appropriate training has been provided. v Assist with client’s physical and mobility requirements in accordance with training provided and the relevant workplace health and safety standard, including transferring of clients.
Provide other support to individual clients as required such as: supporting the participant with their personal care needs, encouraging their involvement within the community, and assisting them to achieve their goals. such as prompting with self-care routines including bathing and brushing teeth, in addition to daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry. Your responsibilities could also include transporting clients to therapy or doctor appointments or taking them shopping and completing other chores.
Facilitate community inclusion and participation, dependent on individual needs, abilities and preferences, and support clients to establish and maintain relationships and interests through access to community activities, venues, and services.
Carry out as instructed and/or designated – and demonstrate initiative – task and activities aimed at meeting the clients personal/living community needs, team objectives and/or program goals which is consistent with E Health Net’s model of practice.
Carry out and promote positive routines/duties/activities in a cooperative respectful and flexible manner, which are meaningful and purposeful to the individual.
Encourage positive and socially appropriate behavior, and effectively manage challenging behavior.
Promote empowerment and the right of choice for all people in need of support within the community.
Respond to crisis within specified guidelines (i.e. Disability Services Manual.
Qualification and Experience
Possess and demonstrate sound disability (or allied health/welfare/education field) experience, knowledge and/or training relevant to the position.
Current AUS Driver’s License (essential)
Current Senior First Aid Certificate (essential)
Current National Police Check or willingness to get one
Certificate III in Disability Studies or equivalent and or experience with willingness to get qualified. (essential)
Compulsory third party insurance on private vehicle (to be used for work purposes)
General awareness of health & safety issues.
Preferably A minimum of one year's driving experience and a full driving license.

Possession of or willing to obtain the following within the 6-month probation period:
o Senior First Aid Certificate
o Manual Handling Certificate
o Mental Health First Aid certificate
The following qualifications are desirable for this position:
Demonstrated skills supporting and caring for adults with complex support need eg challenging behaviors, complex medical supports.
Demonstrating leadership to achieve vision
Demonstrated ability to establish a professional working relationship with clients that is supportive, encouraging, and challenging.
Demonstrated ability and skill to work within a Lifestyle Planning process for persons with a disability
Possess well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including conflict resolution, negotiation, problem solving, and the ability to communicate effectively as a member of a team. (The team may consist of other Disability Support Workers and the Coordinator, families, clients)
